VOLUNTEERS are still needed for the upcoming Winsford Salt Fair and Regatta.

Now in its fourth year, the annual event will take over the town from Wednesday, September 16, to Sunday, September 20.

The Salt Fair will explore Winsford’s rich salt history, including the Royal Charter granted by King Edward I in 1280 giving permission for a weekly market and annual fair in the town.

Winsford Town councillor, Stephen Smith, said: “The historic aspect to the event is a key ingredient, people want to know about the charter, want to know what the ancestors have done by the way of farming in Winsford and particularly the Salt industry.

“One of the main ways of distributing Salt from Winsford around the country was by water from the River Weaver, we must never forget this ancient legal document granted by King Edward the I granting this annual fair, now known as Winsford Salt Fair.”

With this year's even mere weeks away, organisers are seeking volunteers throughout September to sell the programme for the weekend and to generally help out.

For information on how to volunteer, call Winsford Town Council on 01606 593582.
