THE world's fastest tractor made a speedy appearance in Winsford on its way to a north west festival.

The Valtra T234 paid a flying visit to Court House Farm, in Darnhall, just months after it roared into the record books by clocking a top speed of 80.88mph.

This is more than three times the top speed of the average tractor, which is around 25mph.

Jack Richards, area sales executive at Court House Farm, said: "We were all really made up that it came here.

"It was quite exciting because everyone gets a bit fed up when they're sat behind a tractor going slow on their way to work so it was unusual to have something going fast.

"We did have some customers come to see it and there was some excitement on our Facebook page."

The white and green tractor triumphed in its Guinness World Record attempt when it was driven by four-time Rally World Champion Juha Kankkunen at an emergency airfield in Vuojärvi, Finland, in February.

The machine was fitted with industrial snow tyres, northproof Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tyres, and Kankkunen managed to break the record with the tractor's 247bhp from its six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

The record was broken on a 2,300-metre packed snow strip.

Court House Farm is an agricultural machinery and tractor dealership, and is a main agent for Finnish company Valtra.

The T234 was stored at Darnhall on its way to Car Fest North but staff could only look at the legendary vehicle with longing.

"We weren't allowed to drive it really, only on and off the wagon," Jack said.
