A GROUP of wind farmers raised more than £10,000 for a Winsford special school after they cycled from Liverpool to Malpas.

Starting from Liverpool city centre, staff from Community Windpower Ltd (CWL) cycled just under 50 miles to raise funds for Hebden Green Community School.

Hebden Green is a specialist school for children aged between 2-19 years with a broad range of physical disabilities, medical needs and associated learning difficulties.

Hebden Green Schools headteacher, Alison Ashley, said: “I am delighted and humbled that CWL chose to support our wonderful school.

“Thank you to all of your incredible staff, their families and communities for donating their time and money. We will put it to very good use.”

CWL had initially hoped to raise £5,000, but doubled their target, raising a grand total of £10,450.

Ben Fielding, event organiser and project manager at CWL, said: “After the challenge our staff were shown around Hebden Green School by their head teacher Alison Ashley.

“Walking around the school was a humbling experience. Alison and her team are just incredible and the children respond accordingly.

“It was so good to see them all smiling and learning in such a happy and positive environment.

“I have absolutely no doubt the money raised by CWL will be used to good effect.”
