PROPOSALS to build a temporary sales cabin in Winsford would ‘obliterate’ a view of a 700-year-old church, a concerned resident has claimed.

David Wilson Homes North West plan to construct the sales cabin for its 168-home Charlotte Place scheme – on Townfield Road – on land at Swanlow Lane Farm, off Swanlow Lane.

The proposals, which include six parking spaces, were rejected at Winsford Town Council’s planning committee last month, which cited a number of reasons, including traffic concerns.

The application is due to go before Cheshire West and Chester’s planning committee, and a number of Swanlow residents have joined forces to try and thwart the unwanted proposal.

Their concerns focus on the increased traffic the sales cabin will cause, but also of the impact it will have on the view of St Chad's Church, Over, a Grade II listed building.

Sue Buckley, Swanlow Lane, said: “There has been a church on this site for over 700 years and the magnificent view has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.

“The view is appreciated, not only by the residents of Swanlow Lane, but by the many walkers and families who pass each day on their walk to school.

“This view would be obliterated by the construction of the sales office.”

Fellow Swanlow Lane resident, Mervyn Jones, said the view should be protected ‘at all times for future generations’.

He said: “Homeowners in the area are concerned that this application not only robs this area of outstanding views but can set a precedent for future development.”

A spokesman for David Wilson Homes North West said the sales cabin will be a ‘short term measure’, only to cover the interim period before the on-site sales arena opens.

The spokesman said: "We have also offered to reduce the duration of the sales cabin presence off Swanlow Lane from the planned 18 months to just 12 months (or hopefully less), in response to local feeling.

"Local residents can be reassured that as soon as the on-site development sales arena is open, the temporary sales cabin and parking will be removed and reinstated to its original state."
