MEMBERS of the Winsford branch of the Royal British Legion welcomed the MP of Eddisbury last week.
On Friday, July 24, Antoinette Sandbach who visited the Royal British Legion’s Information and Exhibition Centre located in Winsford Cross Shopping Centre.
Geoff Beetham, the chairman of the Winsford branch, escorted her through the Centre with explanations of various exhibits in which she took great interest.
A spokesman for the Royal British Legion Winsford branch, said: “During the course of the visit, she spoke to every member in a very friendly manner.
“It came out during one conversation that two of her ancestors served in the Guards and another served in the expeditionary force that went to the aid of General Gordon of Khartoum, arriving two days too late to save him.
“Before leaving, she thanked and congratulated the branch for the hard work and commitment setting up and running the centre in support of a very worthy cause.”
Speaking after her visit, Ms Sandbach said: "It was great to meet all the dedicated volunteers who have created such a wonderful information centre with a lot of unusual and interesting items from the First World War of great historical value.
“I would encourage local schools to visit and those interested in the work of the British Legion to call in."
