PUPILS at a Winsford special school commemorated the anniversary of the end of the First World War with a 'Warfare and Peace' themed day
This year, Hebden Green School has held a number of special events to mark 100 years since the start of First World War.
Their final commemorative event saw pupils and students worked in five mixed-age groups to participate in activities linked by this theme.
The art activity focussed on the dove, a symbol of peace. The finished piece of artwork will be on display as part of the Winsford Salt Fair in September.
Children also took part in their own battle – with marshmallows.
Pupils made 'goop' to form the battlefield and then uses catapults to send an array of pompoms and marshmallows across the room.
Jake Smith said: “I loved building my catapult and flicking marshmallows across the room at my friends.”
Pupils were also tasted with tackling the 'Tank challenge', where pupils needed to use a cotton reel, pencil, elastic band and washer to create a moving object to move down a track.
Then at lunchtime, pupils from across school enjoyed a wartime- themed menu.
Headteacher Alison Ashley said: “It was a fun-filled day. It was so great to see the children remembering a national historic event.”
