A WINSFORD councillor has explained why he along with other Cheshire West and Chester Council members voted against a proposed committee that would look at improving public transport.

At the last full Cheshire West and Chester Council meeting, Cllr Michael Baynham proposed an amendment to set up a similar group to the proposed residents group for Neston.

The proposed group would see councillors look at how they can improve public transport, including bus travel in and around the Winsford area.

However, all of the Winsford councillors voted against the proposal.

Cllr Brian Clarke, cabinet member for economic development and Infrastructure, said: “Rather than focusing on individual parts of the borough, we are committed to examining how integrated public transport services can best be delivered in every community in Cheshire West and Chester.

“This is why we will shortly be embarking on a widespread review to ensure that the authority is providing services that meet the needs of passengers borough-wide.

“This review will be carried out through the district committees, each of will focus on the specific issues within that geographical area.

“Our aim is to develop an overall picture of how we can improve services while ensuring value for money for the taxpayer.”
