TWO junior safety officers from Winsford have been commended at the Safety Officers of the Year 2015.

Year 6 pupils Sarah Hamill-Stewart and Mia Oakes, both 11, from Over St John's CE Primary School, received 'Highly Commended' for their work over the last 12 months.

The awards recognise their hard work in promoting road, community and personal safety messages both within their schools and to the wider community throughout the past year.

Sarah and Mia were presented with Highly Commended certificates and prizes for their outstanding hard work at separate events organised within their schools.

Cllr Mark Henesy, cabinet member for environment and communities, said: "All primary schools within the Cheshire West and Chester vicinity are invited to nominate Year 6 students to take part in the Junior Safety Officers Scheme.

"This is not only with the intention of spreading safety messages within their schools, but out to parents and their local communities.

"The council's road safety team and Cheshire Constabulary do and will continue to work closely with the children, so that everyone understands how vital road, personal and community safety is.

"We would like to congratulate all the winners on their success and show our appreciation for all their hard work throughout the year."
