PUPILS from Winsford are hoping to see the seeds of their hard work come to fruition at this year’s RHS Flower Show at Tatton.

More than 80,000 are expected to descend on Tatton Park for the five-day event, which began on Tuesday.

The ‘Front to Front School Gardens Competition’, which is organised by the Winsford Education Partnership, has seen 18 regional schools create their own small ‘front to front’ garden.

Following the theme of great British myths, legends and pastimes, the youngsters have spent months growing plants and designing their gardens.

Kevin Smith, of the Winsford Education Project, said: “RHS Tatton is the only horticultural show that allows children on site to build their designed garden, so it’s a natural highlight for this project.

“These gardens are real works of art – they have inspired the design, planning and construction skills of the youngsters – and they should all be very proud of what they have achieved.”

Winsford-based Oaklands School is hopeful that its rugby-inspired creation will earn it a place in the ‘Feature Gardens’ contest.

Winsford’s Over Hall Community School will take primary schools from across the region for the ‘Primary Schools’ category.

Karol Roberts, of Roberts Bakery, which is sponsoring the competition, said: “The children have obviously put a lot of hard work into designing their outdoor schemes and it was fantastic to be involved in helping them to create these amazing gardens.”
