A RAPIST from Winsford has been jailed for six years after raping an 18-year-old in her home.

Andrew Haag, 25, of Vauxhall Way, Winsford, was found guilty of rape at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, July 10, following a four day trial at Chester Crown Court.

The charge related to an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 19, 2015.

Following a night out in Northwich, Haag went back to the victim’s home in Winsford.

It was there that he sexually assaulted her while he and the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were alone.

Det Const Helen Wrigley from the Cheshire Police Dedicated Rape Unit said: “Rape and sexual assault are horrific offences, which affects victims in the most profound way.

“This incident has had a big impact on the victim and the fact that Hagg made her recount her ordeal by enduring a trial further exacerbates the impact that this case has had upon her.

“We hope that the guilty verdict and the sentence handed down by the court will help bring about a degree of closure for the victim and her family.”

Det Const Wrigley hopes the bravery of the victim in this case will inspire others who may have ‘suffered in silence’ to come forward.

She said: "Cheshire Police is committed to tackling sexual violence and our Dedicated Rape Unit helps and supports victims of this type of crime.

“I hope this sentence – and the bravery shown by the victim – gives others who may have suffered in silence the courage to come forward."
