WHARTON Primary School were handed a cheque for £200 after coming out on top of Asda’s Chosen by You Green Token scheme.

The school’s Sensory Garden project bested two other community causes after they were selected to take part in the scheme in March.

The funds will be put towards improving the Sensory Garden project, with £100 of ornamental figures already been earmarked. A water feature has also been mooted.

A school spokesman said: “The children would like a water feature, so with the remaining monies we will choose a solar powered Water feature to ensure an eco-friendly garden.

“The children will be responsible for watering, weeding, planting and maintaining and developing the garden so they can have somewhere quiet and relaxing to go, in the school grounds at playtime.”

Asda Winsford is now taking nominations for the next batch of entrants for the Chosen by You Green Token scheme, which runs every two months.

Store manager, Claire Caldwell, said: "Simply pick up a Nomination card from the community board and post it in the post box also on the board to take part for July and August.”

The three chosen charities will battle it out and then after two months the good cause with the most green tokens will win £200. The two other competing causes each get £50 each.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, June 24.
