HUNDREDS of residents are expected to flood the streets when the Delamere Street Festival returns to Winsford for its third year.

The Delamere Street Festival, or Dfest as it is commonly known, will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 11am until 5pm. Delamere Street will be closed from Nixon Drive to Saxon Crossway.

Dfest is organised by St John’s Church, in collaboration with Winsford Town Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, local schools and other organisations.

Rev George Crowder, from St John’s Church Over, said: ““We love our local community at St John’s, so we love doing this event.

“We want to bring everyone together because we want to share the good news of Jesus Christ.”

Opening proceedings at 11am, a parade of children from various Winsford primary schools will make their way down the street to the main stage.

Rev Crowder said: “Welcomed by the mayor of Winsford, Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, each school will perform individually, then for the first time they will all perform together.

“They have all been practising hard and will provide a brilliant start to our event this year. As with the art exhibition in the church building, their theme is ‘courage’.”

A number of acts from Winsford and beyond will perform live on the main stage, meanwhile in the church building, children’s and adult choirs will raise the roof in a choral showcase.

Cream teas will be served as people listen and enjoy the music.

Rev Crowder added: “Charities and good causes from around the local area will have stalls in the community market along the street.

“St John’s Church will have a stall with info, children’s activities and giveaways.

"Harry Sharlands Fun Fair will be in full swing on Winsford MOT garage forecourt, and plenty of food and refreshments will be on offer too: hog roast, vegetarian BBQ, candy floss and snow cones.”

The street festival ends at 5pm, though at 7.30pm the doors of the church will open and choirs from around the region will be performing an evening concert.
