A PROSTATE cancer support group will hold a PSA blood test session in Winsford next month.

The blood test will take place on June 24 from 7pm-10pm at Winsford Conservative Club, Ways Green.

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men with more than 40,000 men diagnosed and some 12,000 men dying from it every year here in the UK.

Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group are dedicating the session to Tom MacDean, a founding member of the group who recently died from prostate cancer.

Gary Steele M.B.E Chairman Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, said: “So far this year we have now tested more than 600 men and have identified and confirmed 38 cancers, cancers that would not have been found due to men either not visiting their GP or in many instances being refused owing to not showing symptoms.

“Only 8 per cent of eligible men are tested for prostate cancer here in the UK, compared to more than 60 per cent of men across Europe.

“Around 80 per cent of men diagnosed showed no signs of symptoms and 28 per cent of men seen for the first time by an Oncologist were unable to be treated as the cancer was too far advanced.”
