CREWE’S newly-elected mayor has chosen St Luke’s Hospice as one of his mayoral charities for the next twelve months.

Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis chose the Cheshire hospice, which is based in Winsford, at the mayor making ceremony on Tuesday, May 19.

St Luke’s is an adult hospice that provides free care for people from mid and south Cheshire suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

St Luke’s relies mainly on donations to raise the £7,500 a day it needs to stay operational.

Cllr Straine-Francis said: "I look forward to working with St Luke’s during my year in office.

"I hope together we can do a lot of fundraising to promote and support their great work.”

Mark Porter, corporate and community fundraiser for St Luke’s attended the ceremony at Ruskin Community High School, Crewe.

Mr Porter said, “We are thrilled to be chosen as Crewe Mayor’s Charity of the Year.

“The money raised from fundraising events organised by Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis will benefit our hospice by helping to provide vital support for patients with life-limiting illnesses.”
