WINSFORD’S new mayor was sworn in to her new role and vowed to make wellbeing a key theme in her mayoral year.

Winsford Town councillor, Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, was elected the Mayor of Winsford following nominations from her father and fellow councillor, Malcolm Gaskill, and Don Beckett.

Cllr Gaskill-Jones, who organised this year’s first ever Walkabout Winsford, said she intends to push for similar events that promote wellbeing during her mayoral year.

“I am passionate about improving wellbeing within our community,” Cllr Gaskill-Jones said.

“I think we are all aware that poor health in whatever form it takes significantly impacts not only length of life, but as significantly, quality of life.

“The town council has an established track record of supporting wellbeing through its provision of outdoor gym facilities, its support of the Incredible Edibles Winsford initiative and of the inaugural Walkabout Winsford event.

“During my mayoral year I am keen to further support such initiatives as well as organise additional events which will build on this foundation.”

Cllr Gaskill-Jones’ husband Matthew will act as her consort.

Cllr David Edwards was elected as deputy mayor, with Amy Louise Forbes acting as deputy mayoress.

The new mayor presents Cllrr Lewis with a past mayor’s badge, and admitted she will be a ‘hard act to follow’.

She said: “She has been an excellent ambassador for this town, has demonstrated the dignity this role deserves and has worked extremely hard to raise funds for her chosen charities.

“She will undoubtedly be a hard act to follow and if it is alright with her I may be drilling her for tips and advice in order that I can have an equally successful mayoral year.

“It is a great privilege to be elected Mayor of the town where I have lived for almost all of my life and which is the only place I have ever called home.”
