WINSFORD Academy held their own general election as part of their Democracy Day event.

The whole school took part in a Democracy Day on Wednesday 6th May.

With the General Election two days later, the school’s Student Council were keen to run a mock election looking at the Academy’s response to the election manifestos of the main parties.

Pupils were encouraged to discuss party policies and make a decision.

The votes were counted at the end of the day by Charlie West, school council leader, Rhys Harrison, deputy leader and Zara Murphy.

Unlike the outcome of the General Election, the winning party was Labour with a comfortable majority.

Pupil also voted on a strategy for Winsford that they would like to take to Winsford Town Council.

The choices were developed by the Student Council, some of whom have undertaken training through the Winsford Educational Partnership and partner primaries.

The council took a democratic vote to select the choices which in turn were put to the whole school.

The winning choice by a large majority was to suggest building a leisure/entertainment complex.

The Council have plans to meet with Winsford Town Council Clerk Alan Warburton next month to discuss where their idea fits into the Winsford Neighbourhood Plan.
