A WINSFORD charity welcomed the town mayor for the official opening of their pond.

The NeuroMuscular Centre (NMC), which offers range of services and specialist advice for people with muscular dystrophy, saw Winsford’s town mayor, Cllr Gina Lewis, officially open their pond.

The pond has been funded by donations made in memory of our former graphic designer Leigh Lawson, who suffered from muscular dystrophy and worked at the NMC for a decade.

Matthew Lanham, chief executive at of the NMC, said: “The NeuroMuscular Centre has been lucky enough to have the support of the mayor over the last year having been selected as one of her charities of the year.

"And we were delighted to welcome her to open this wonderful natural landmark which is located in NMC’s meadow which surrounds the Centre.”

The pond itself is a completely natural pond and is a haven for plants and wildlife including birds, amphibians and insects.

Mr Lanham added: “It is a wonderful addition to the fully accessible outside space at the NMC.

“The pond and its banks are truly starting to flourish and it’s fantastic that it can be enjoyed by our entire NMC community from the fully accessible Boardwalk.”
