A TEAM of Winsford carers walked from Wrexham to Winsford to raise money for their care home.

Six carers from 3L Care, in Winsford, braved the wet weather to walk the 26-mile trek to help raise money for the new patio doors at the care home’s dining room.

Over the last few months, 3L Care has been fundraising to raise £2500 to pay for the patio doors, which would allow patients to have easier access to the home’s sensory garden.

Holly Taylor, Becky Goodwin, Elaine Burke, Nicki Edwards, Kate Teece and Kim Cooper began their charity trek in Holt, in Wrexham, at 7.30am.

Holly, 23, from Winsford, said: “Last year I climbed up Snowden. I really struggled, so I thought I wouldn’t be able to do the walk.

“We’re not the fittest bunch of ladies, but to be honest we were all getting on quite well for the first half of the journey.

“But when we got half way we were all aching. I just thought we would plough on but it started raining, it was freezing cold, so we stopped for our lunch in Tiverton.”

Despite feeling the pain, the group were given a much-needed boost when home care manager, Michelle Milner, met them in Tarporley to hand-deliver a 24 pack of donuts.

This gave the girls the boost they needed – though they began to feel the pinch about 20 miles into their journey.

“When we got to Darnhall we started really struggling,” Holly said. “By that point were really aching and all our blisters were getting ready to pop, but we stuck together.”

Despite their aches and pains, the girls made it into Winsford three hours earlier than expected, arriving at the Old Star pub by 4.30pm.

Holly said: “We were really happy customers, we couldn’t believe it.

“We had a much-deserved drink when we made it to the Old Star. We were planning on going to the Red lion but everyone was so tired, so we all went home to bed.”
