FOODCRAFT are celebrating bagging a hat-trick of awards after being named as one of the UK's top 50 best fish and chip shops – days after scooping a Winsford Oscar.

In February FoodCraft, which are celebrating their 55th birthday this year, were named best chips shop in Cheshire.

Last Friday FoodCraft battered the competition to win the Cheshire Community Development Trust Business of the Year award at the Winsford town mayor’s Oscars.

And now Winsford’s favourite chippy is celebrating once again after being named on Fry Magazine’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Shops for 2015.

Current owner John Finney Jr said: “We’re absolutely elated, it’s a like a triple whammy. It’s absolutely fantastic.

“Coming so close after the first award we picked up, and then the Oscar.

“The Oscar was brilliant because it is recognising everyone in Winsford. That is what we are, we are Winsford. It was a great night, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“To be in with such prestigious company was brilliant, and now low and behold the top 50 list was published and we were on it.”

Around 500 shops entered Fry Magazine’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Shops 2015.

Each entrant was visited by a mystery diner who assessed more than 40 aspects of the business including the quality of fish and chips, staff presentation, front-of-house hygiene and customer service.

England dominated the list with 47 entrants, with five in Scotland, one in Wales and two in Northern Ireland.

John added: “It’s just testament to us that we’ve been able to keep the consistency so high and make people proud of the place.

“That’s the big kick really. It makes people proud of what they do, and proud of the place itself. It’s a nice to be part of somewhere people are proud of.

“It feeds your enthusiasm, and makes you want to do even better for next time.”
