WINSFORD’S finest were honoured at the Town Mayor’s Oscars evening.

Winsford residents young and old were recognised at the lavish awards evening, which was presented by Ian Anstice.

The Town Mayor issued twelve awards in total, which were all sponsored by various organisations.

A cash raffle raised more than £530 for the Town Mayor’s charities, the NeuroMuscular Centre and Christians Against Poverty.

Among the night’s winners was Vanessa Tobin, who bagged the Winsford and Middlewich Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year award and the Town Mayor's Walk of Achievement award.

Single parent Vanessa, 45, originally from Stockport, is the warehouse manager for Mid Cheshire Food Bank and is also a governor at Wharton Primary School and a leading member of the P.T.F.A.

Speaking after winning the award, Vanessa said: “The Food Bank is very close to my heart because there are a lot of people out there that find it very difficult to approach the food bank.

“I can’t imagine what these people must feel to not be able to feed their kids. That’s the thing that really gets me.

“It helps so many people. To me I’m giving a bit of my time and is making a huge impact on people future.

“So many people want to help. They may offer a carrier bag of food. They come up and say ‘you helped me when I need it, so I want to help you’.

“It’s amazing and it really does restore your faith in human nature.”

Among some of the other winners on the night was Winsford Boxing Club, which picked up the

The Plumbley Environmental Contractors Sports Person of the Year award.

Winsford chippy, Foodcraft, picked up The Cheshire Community Development Trust Business of the Year award.

The Fords of Winsford Young Entrepreneur of the Year award went to Amit Nayee.

Amit, from Winsford, won the award in recognition for his restaurant, Nu Flava, which opened last year in Winsford, and has so far proved a hit with punters.

Speaking after picking up the award, Amit, 28, said: “I’m very proud tonight. I’ve got my community behind me, I’m from Winsford, I grew up here. I’m very proud.”
