A WINSFORD chippy is offering punters the chance to swap their Easter eggs for bag of chips so they can be donated to the Salvation Army.

The Corner Fish & Chip Shop on Princess Street, Winsford, has been running the Easter promotion all through March, and on April 2 will hand over their chocolate haul to the Salvation Army.

Annmarie Curzon, 32, who own and run the Corner Fish & Chip Shop with her husband Terry Curzon, 37, had the idea after being inspired by one of her customer’s volunteering work last Christmas.

Annmarie said: “I just thought what a great thing that was to do. The last thing I’m thinking about when I’m eating my Christmas dinner are other people.

“The thing is you see people really struggling on the TV, with things like Red Nose Day, but you don’t really think it’s happening around you, but it is.”

It’s not the first time the Annmarie, whose family has been in Winsford for four generations, has helped out the local community.

Last year, the Corner Fish & Chip Shop ran a promotion to raise money for Hebden Green School.

“It went really well so we wanted to do something again this year,” Annmarie said.

“We tried to think of a local cause and the Salvation Army does an awful lot in Winsford so we picked them.”

Once Annmarie hands over their haul the Salvation Army will then distribute them to families in the Winsford area.

A spokesman for the Salvation Army said: "We are delighted that the Corner Fish & Chip shop has offered to collect Easter eggs to be given to us.

“They will be a very welcome addition to the food parcels that we distribute to needy families every week in our area.

“We are in regular contact with social agencies and charities that refer those in need. We provide basic necessities but these Easter eggs will be a real treat for children.

“We continue to be grateful too to all those who would donate food or clothes to help us in our work to provide for those who find themselves in hardship.”

The Corner Fish & Chip Shop is open from Monday to Friday, between 11.30am-2.00pm and between 4.30pm-8.00pm.
