THE Royal British Legion has re-opened its Information and Exhibition Centre following a winter break.

The information hub, on Queens Parade, Winsford Cross Shopping Centre, is open Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 10.00am-12.30pm.

The Winsford Branch has numerous military artefacts on display ranging from a cannonball from the English Civil war 1640 to a military watch from the Falklands conflict 1982.

A spokesman for The Royal British Legion said: “As would be expected, the majority of the display covers the two World Wars with both British and German weaponry.

“We have medals and a host of miscellaneous items including a bomb release push button from a Lancaster bomber.

“There are lists of Winsford residents who served in the First World War together with a list of those who made the ultimate sacrifice along with various mementos, plaques, poems and photographs.

“The very recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are not forgotten with display boards showing names and photographs of every service personnel who have lost their lives in the latter conflict.”

Everyone is welcome to browse the displays and exhibits with branch members present to answer any questions. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The spokesman added: “The branch played a major part in the 2014 town commemorations of the start of the First World War with further plans this year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War in 1945.
