YOUNGSTERS gave Wharton Youth Centre a much-needed lick of paint as part of the Prince’s Trust programme.

As part of the 12-week programme, which is led by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the team had to complete a community project to graduate, and chose the Wharton Youth Centre on Greville Drive.

The team of 13 redecorated two rooms at the youth centre and gave the outside a clean fresh look before it was unveiled to Winsford’s Town Mayor, Cllr Gina Lewis.

Jennie Pye, the Prince's Trust Project assistant team manager for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The programme aims to move young people into full time employment.

“By doing this community project it helped them to gain practical experience but also how to project manage and budget."

The team raised all the money for the project themselves by bag packing in a local supermarket, which allowed them to buy paint and paint brushes.

The Prince’s Trust programme gives young people between 16 and 25 the opportunity to learn new skills and complete qualifications.

The primary focus of the programme is to work within the community.
