A WINSFORD charity has been given a cash boost of £30,000 after winning a national award.

The NeuroMuscular Centre, based in Winsford, is the only charity in the UK that provides ongoing physiotherapy and support for people affected by muscular dystrophy.

The centre beat more than 350 charities to win a GSK IMPACT Award, which includes £30,000 in unrestricted funding.

Matthew Lanham, chief executive of the NMC, said: “Winning the GSK IMPACT Award has given a massive boost to our confidence as an organisation.

“We’re ambitious to grow and develop our services and the Award provides an extremely timely, high profile endorsement of the impact of our work and the professionalism of our organisation.”

The GSK IMPACT Awards, run in partnership with The King’s Fund, are designed to recognise the outstanding work of community-based health and wellbeing charities.

In addition to the recognition and funding, the NeuroMuscular Centre will receive access to training and development worth an estimated £6,000.

The NeuroMuscular Centre will receive its prize at a ceremony held at the Science Museum in London on Thursday May 14, along with the other nine winners.

Katie Pinnock, Director, UK and Ireland Charitable Partnerships, said: “The Neuromuscular Centre is an excellent organisation responding to all the needs of people with degenerative diseases.

“It should be commended for its inclusive approach and the support it provides to people with muscular dystrophy, their families, carers and other professionals. It is a worthy winner.”
