CHESHIRE police have donated nearly £3000 to help clean up the streets of Winsford – with a street art programme.

Wharton Youth Club has received £2,873 from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Crime Prevention Fund to the Club to run a Street Art Programme.

The programme will encourage youngsters to create street art on mural boards to decorate the club, and deter them from committing anti-social behaviour in the area.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said: "Communities shouldn’t tolerate anti-social behaviour.

“We need to work together to ensure that undesirable behaviour is nipped in the bud at an early stage. It’s only when we turn a blind eye the behaviour that it begins to escalate.

"I fully support organisations like the Wharton Youth Club who are going the extra mile to provide activities for youngsters in a safe environment."

Bob Barton, who runs Wharton Youth Club, gave special thanks to the Police and Crime Commissioner.

He said: "I want to thank the Commissioner for the funding he’s provided. The theme for some of the artwork that the young people will be doing will be around personal safety and road safety.

“The Youth Club will link in to other organisations who work with young people to ensure consistent messages about safety are being delivered."
