A WINSFORD charity that provides services for those with muscular dystrophy will receive a £5,000 cash boost for new equipment.

Muscular dystrophy affects muscle power in both limbs and organs, including the heart and lungs.

The NeuroMuscular Centre in Winsford, the only centre of its kind in the UK, will use the money to purchase physiotherapy equipment to aid fitness for those affected by the condition.

Peter Wilson, who applied for the funding from the Mutual’s Foundation, said:  “The EasyStand Glider will make such a difference.

“It will add another element to the physiotherapy clients are able to access.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be receiving the money from Engage and are extremely grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for our cause. It’s such a great feeling.”

The centre is one of only seven projects in the UK to receive the award from Engage Mutual’s Foundation.

Nigel Hunter, head of community at Engage Mutual, said: “When we set up the Engage Foundation earlier on in the year we did so with one overriding objective: to enable customers to benefit from the financial success of their business.

"We think it’s great to be able to help a community project or a good cause that our customers feel passionate about.

“We’re delighted that this award will potentially improve the lives of so many local people with muscular dystrophy and enable the centre in Winsford to help even more people.”
