A COMMUNITY project that provides weekly day care session for elderly residents in Winsford held a street party to celebrate 25 years since the service begun.

The service, which is run by the Salvation Army, is supported by a number of volunteers, many of whom have been helping out since its inception.

The majority of people who attend are over 65, with one regular recently celebrating her 100th birthday.
Captain Becky Ward, commanding officer at Winsford Corps, said: "Our day care session meets a real need in Winsford as many of the people who come aren't able to get out of the house on their own.

“We're able to go and pick them up and bring them here where they can take part in activities and catch up with friends in a safe environment.”

To celebrate the important milestone, partygoers were treated to street party food along with a live performance from Winsford singer Cockney Carol.

Mabel Haddock, who has been coming to the service for many years, said: "Friday's are the best day of the week for us as we get to come here.

“I have friends here and we're able to have a real giggle. It's a wonderful service and makes a real difference to us all."
