A WINSFORD funeral home marked its official opening day with a visit from the town Mayor – and a Hayley Cropper coffin.

The Co-operative Funeralcare, on Over Square, Winsford, held the elaborate open day for the local community to find out more about the work of a funeral director.

A ‘Hayley Cropper’ coffin, modelled after the popular Coronation Street character’s coffin, was on display to illustrate how funerals can be tailored to form a unique tribute to a unique life.

Alongside the extravagant coffin was a tandem bicycle hearse and a motorbike and sidecar hearse.

Nick Wiscombe, funeral home manager, said: “Funerals are difficult and emotional times for all of us, but we hope by opening our doors we helped break down some of the traditional barriers that exist.

“I hope our guests were able to find out more about the work of funeral professionals, speak to our staff and view our funeral home.”

The Mayor of Winsford Town Council, Clr Gina Lewis, also turned up to mark the occasion and was joined by members of the clergy.

During the event, the new chapel of rest was dedicated by local minister, The Rev George Crowder.
