A CRUCIAL service that supports the elderly living independently has been extended to cover the winter of 2014-2015.

‘Keeping Well in West Cheshire’, aims to support older people through providing advice, information and support to help them look after themselves and live independently.

Those registered receive a weekly telephone call offering advice and can also receive referrals for other support services including help in the home.

The service is funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council, NHS Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Dr Jonathan Griffiths, Chair of NHS Vale Royal CCG, said: “Keeping Well in West Cheshire began as a 12 month pilot in October 2013 and following a successful year we are pleased to confirm that the service has been extended to cover the winter of 2014-2015.

“Working with our local partners, the CCG aims to improve the health of older people so that they have access to services that help them stay well and live independently for longer.”

In the first twelve months, 100 community events were attended and there are now around 200 elderly residents registered on the programme. A number of future events are planned.
