A BUDDING teen pop star is aiming for chart success this Christmas after recording a charity single with a number of young hopefuls.

Callum Jackson, 14, from Winsford, recently travelled to Newcastle to record a cover of Do They Know It's Christmas?, which was organised by the nonprofit company, Big Pure Talent.

All the proceeds from the single, which marks the 30th anniversary of the famous Band Aid song, will go to the anti-bullying charity Stand Up, Speak Out.

For Callum, the experience was an unforgettable one, as it was also an opportunity for the self-taught guitarists and singer song-writer to get some studio time.

“It was great,” the Leftwich High School student said. “It was very tiring but quite exciting because I haven’t done anything like it. I’ve never actually been to a recording studio before.”

Callum first picked up the guitar aged 11 and from there his love affair with music was born.

After teaching himself how to play, he began to pen his own songs, and then incredibly began teaching himself how to play piano.

And this year, Callum joined former Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor stars for the Mac Music Tour, performing in Liverpool and then in London.

“It was really great to because were able to mix with loads of other artists backstage,” he said.

“I’ve done Britain’s Got Talent myself a couple of times but haven’t really got very far. I got to the second round of X Factor but that’s all really. I’m not sure if I’m going to go down that route again.”

Callum’s mum and dad, Andrea and Mark Jackson, says they are incredibly proud of their son, but insists his education is always him number one priority.

“He’s never missed a day of off school,” Mark said. “He lives for music, it just comes natural to him. He never goes out much. His life is his music.”

“We go to all of his gigs. We’re so proud of him.”

A spokesman for Big Pure Talent said: “We would like to thank Callum and all the talented young musicians for putting so much time and effort in to this single.

“They are a credit to all teenagers. It's amazing they are all supporting such a worthy cause.”

Do They Know It’s Christmas? by Youth United ‘14, will be available on iTunes from December 8.
