A TEAM of good-willed youths banded together to give a Winsford youth centre sports hall a lick of paint after raising the cash to carry out the work.

The 15 young people, who are all aged between 16 and 22 and from the Winsford and Davenham areas, were doing the good deed as part of a project for the Prince's Trust programme.

Working with the Winsford Youth Forum, over the past month the group have been busy giving the New Images Youth Centre in Winsford a much-needed revamp.

As the project came to a close, the team were also honoured by Winsford Town Mayor, Clr Gina Lewis, who was delighted with the group’s handy work.

Team leader, Jason McTigue, said: "Over the past few weeks we have seen the team pull together to complete this project.

“Their achievements have been outstanding and the quality of work that they have produced has been amazing.”

As part of the project the group were tasked with raising the cash, through charitable means, to buy materials.

The team mucked together to raise £340 by bag packing at Morrisons in Winsford.

As well as financing the project, the resourceful youths put their heads together to plan and prepare the area, and were able to see it through to complete their paint job to a high standard.

Team member Gemma Baxter said the project wasn’t entirely without any hiccups.

She said: “We’ve had our ups and downs and highs and lows, but by working together and understanding each other’s needs we’ve got through the project.

“It’s been a bit special doing this project as I used to come here when I was younger. I also volunteered here for a while so a lot of positive memories have come flooding back”.

Bob Barton from Winsford Youth Forum said: "It was a really good team effort and I would recommend the group to any community project.

“It was a real joy to be part of the team's experience and it now puts pressure on me to continue the restoration."
