BONFIRE Night saw thousands of people from around the region don their woolly gloves and scarves for Winsford’s fireworks extravaganza.

Winsford Town Mayor, Clr Gina Lewis, was also on hand on Saturday to help light the bonfire at the town’s annual Bonfire and Firework Display.

Around 2500 people enjoyed the event, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Winsford and Middlewich and Kimbolton Fireworks Ltd.

“It was superb, absolutely wonderful, it really couldn’t have gone any better,” Clr Lewis said. “I love fire, and the display was spectacular.

“It was a lovely family occasion, and judging from all the ‘oohs and aahs’ I think it went down extremely well.”

The Rotary Club will be donating much of the proceeds from the event to local charities and good causes

Mark Holmes, President of the Rotary Club of Winsford and Middlewich said: “The firework display is now firmly established as one of the major events in Winsford attracting people from a wide area.

“With Local Authorities, Police and the Fire Service now fully supporting organised events and emphasising the need for safety the future of the event is assured and we hope that the people of Winsford will continue to give their support.

“Organising such an event would be impossible without the support, not only of the people who attend, but also of the many businesses in the town.”
