WINSFORD has voted to adopt the town’s Neighbourhood Plan.

More than two thirds of the town’s electorate (69 per cent) voted in favour of the document, which outlines where at least 3,500 new houses and 35 hectares of employment land will be created over the next 15 years.

It also sets out improvements that developers will be expected to contribute towards – such as improved leisure facilities and public space – if they are granted planning permission on future builds.

2,620 people voted ‘Yes’ and 1,160 voted ‘No’.

The result means Cheshire West and Chester Council will now expedite a series of improvements across Winsford.

The borough council committed to improving the town centre retail experience and well as improving transport in the event of a ‘Yes’ vote.

The Winsford Neighbourhood Plan is the largest NP undertaken in the UK.
