WINSFORD residents are being urged to take their cars to their local fire station on Saturday, October 11 to help raise money for charity.

Firefighters with the help of fire cadets and volunteers will be out with their buckets and sponges, washing cars for charity on the Winsford fire station yard, in a bid to help raise as much money as they can for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Chair of the Fire Fighters Charity and deputy chief fire officer, Mark Cashin, said: “The charity car wash is a great way to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity which has provided assistance to serving and retired firefighters for more than 60 years, and also to increase awareness of road safety.

“Unfortunately our firefighters see firsthand the tragic consequences of road traffic collisions and I really hope that drivers will go along and support this event as they will not only be helping The Fire Fighters Charity, but they will also take away vital road safety advice which could save their lives.”

During the event firefighters will be on hand to speak to Winsford drivers about road safety.

The charity car wash will take place on Saturday, October 11 at Winsford Community Fire Station, Sadler Road, CW7 2BN between 10.00am – 4.00pm. Everyone is welcome.

Every year, thousands of firefighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.

The Fire Fighters Charity assists over 13,500 individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

It costs over £9 million every year to keep the charity running. With no government funding, it is completely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.
