MORE than 108 cannabis plants have been seized by police in Winsford during a bumper month for drugs busts.

Officers have announced that narcotics supply would continue to be a priority throughout September following numerous successful arrests for drug-related activity in the town.

In recent weeks, cannabis cultivations have been found at addresses in Dierden Street, Bedford Rise, Brindley Avenue, Nixon Drive and Regent Street in Moulton.

A total of 108 plants have been seized along with the hydroponics equipment used to grow them.

A spokesman for Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We have applied for and carried out five drugs warrants in recent weeks.

“All warrants were positive, with drugs seized and persons arrested. We are looking to continue this work throughout September as drug supply and use has such a detrimental impact on the local community.”

Arrests were made at four of the warrants and various individuals are currently on police bail to allow time for further enquiries to be made.

Elsewhere, officers will continue to focus on the illegal use of mini-moto scooters.

People riding motorbikes illegally continues to be a problem on the Wharton Estate.

The spokesman added: “The machines are being ridden in an anti-social manner and also cause noise nuisance. We will be working to identify those riding the bikes and where they are being kept.

“Anyone caught on the public highway riding a mini-moto will be dealt with appropriately for any offences disclosed.”

Anyone with information on drugs supply or the illegal use of motorbikes in Winsford should call the Cheshire Police non-emergency number on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
