Winsford Academy Sixth Form saw performance improve on last year, with a 22.3 per cent ride on the number of students achieving the grades in the A* to E range in three subjects.

The academy's BTEC students also proved successful, with 46.6 per cent achieving either a Distinction* or a Distinction.

Staff praised Laura Sammut, who achieved a Distinction* in business and an A in photography and has secured employment with Barclays Bank, senior head boy Dominic Ogden, who secured a place at Salford University to study media, senior head girl Katie Memery, who secured a place at Chester University to study history, and Danny Hughes, who achieved a Distinction/Merit and Distinction and secured a place at Chester University to study Travel and Tourism.

Louise Cooper, head of sixth form, said: "This is an extremely pleasing set of results for the Winsford Academy Sixth Form, after a very successful first year in our new facilities.

" As early as February, Ofsted recognised the strong leadership, better teaching, improved attendance and most importantly the excellent attitude displayed by our students.

"It is therefore no surprise that this cohort of hardworking, diligent and delightful young adults have achieved so well.

"Their success is well deserved.”
