RESIDENTS gathered in Winsford town centre to commemorate those who lost their lives in the First World War.

The commemoration event was held on Sunday, July 27, for the centenary year, and saw Winsford Town Mayor, Clr Gina Lewis, lay wreath on behalf of the people of Winsford.

The day started with a role play performance by children’s author John Malam, before pupils from Willow Wood Primary School joined Winsford Community Choir with a selection of popular First World War marching songs.

Clr Gina Lewis, Winsford Town Mayor, said: “Winsford Town Council was very privileged to be part of this commemoration.

“So many lives were changed by the events of the First World War and we wanted to show our gratitude for all who gave their lives in that war.”

A representative of the Winsford Branch of the Royal British Legion read out the names of the Winsford men who gave their lives before two more names, Private Arthur Gibson DCM and Sergeant George S. Bradbury, who both lost their lives during the First World War, were also added to the war memorial during the act of dedication.
