FUNDRAISING Winsford cyclists who rode a gruelling circuit of Britain’s canal network have generated £2,480 for charity.

Nick Dean, Mark Winterman and Roy Pennington stage the event each year in aid of the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Their 2014 total means the trio have now raised more than £14,000 for the group over the past seven years.

The money helps the Leighton Group – run by Winsford campaigner Gary Steele – test men for early signs of prostate cancer.

This month alone, the group have tested 150 men, 8 per cent of which registered abnormal results.

Early prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing of is crucial in the battle against prostate cancer, yet Britain lags behind Europe and north America in mandatory screening.

Over the years, Gary’s charity has saved countless lives via their group testing events throughout mid Cheshire and beyond.

In August, the Leighton Group is casting the net even further afield, with an estimated 300 men due to be tested during events at Bramhall Golf Club on Saturday, August 2 and in Penrith on August 9.

Individuals or businesses hoping to donate, or sponsor future test events should contact Gary on 01606 553097.
