POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted while walking along a main road near Moulton.

The 25-year-old woman from Winsford was pushing a bike along the A533 Davenham bypass between 12.30am-12.45am on Monday, July 14, when she was grabbed around the waist from behind by an unknown offender.

The incident occurred close to the junction with Jack Lane.

The offender attempted to pull the victim on to a grass verge and then punched her in the middle of her back, causing her to fall to the floor, and on to her knees.

She was able to break free and headed away from the scene to safety.

As a result of the punch, the victim was left winded and sustained grazing to her knees from the fall.

PC Louise Glavin, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We are committed to doing all we can to trace whoever is responsible for this serious offence and are urging anyone who has any information, which could assist with our enquiries to come forward.

"The incident took place in the early hours of the morning but there is a chance someone may have seen or heard something significant. If so, we would ask you to contact us."
