PARLIAMENT is set to debate the first phase of HS2 today, Thursday.

A bill has been put forward to secure the powers to construct and operate the London to West Midlands branch of the high speed railway route.

This had its first reading in November 2013 and will have its second reading on Thursday.

Action groups are appealing to those affected by HS2 to contact their MP in advance of the vote.

Richard Houghton, from HS2 Action Alliance (HS2AA), said: “If you are impacted, then you must go to Parliament on Monday, April 28, to make it clear how you feel – or speak to your MP between now and then to ensure he or she understands they could lose your vote.”

HS2 is being planned to link Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham with London.
