DEVELOPERS have submitted a planning application to build hundreds of new houses on agricultural land close to the scenic Winsford flash.

Gladman have notified Cheshire West and Chester Council that they want to create 215 new homes north of Rilshaw Lane.

They aim to create the houses on a 7.2 hectare site south of the A54, with associated pedestrian access, cycle ways and a play area.

Houses built on the eastern parcel of land will interrupt the open views currently enjoyed by residents along Rilshaw Lane, who have campaigned vigorously against the proposals since Gladman leafleted homes in the area signalling their intent to develop the land.

In supporting documents, Gladman say the site’s appearance in the ‘station quarter urban extension’ of the on-hold Winsford Neighbourhood Plan document justifies its delivery.

They state: ‘Bringing forward this application on this sustainable site further underlines the deliverability of this element of the NP, enabling the vision of the community to start to come to fruition, despite the delay in the examination process’.

They also draw on Cheshire West and Chester’s failure to meet a five year housing supply under the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework, stating that Rilshaw Meadows would help ‘rectify the acute housing shortage in the borough’.
