WINSFORD’S Willow Wood Community Primary capped an eventful week with a visit to the local corridors of power.

Little did pupils know that they’d be visiting Wyvern House as reigning Mayor’s Oscars champions.

But after scooping the Best School Project award at the annual celebration, members of the school council put the icing on the cake on Thursday, April 3, with a visit to see where their town and borough counterparts make their decisions.

And the inquisitive youngsters wasted no time in asking what matters.

“I was really pleased at the questions fired at us by these amazing young people of our town,” said mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy.

“The pupils seemed particularly interested in whether I worked hard or not!”

Pupils visited the Cheshire West and Chester Council Chambers where they used the microphones, acted as Councillors, had their photographs taken and quizzed junior mayor, Harvey Banks.

Town Clerk Alan Warburton exhibited the town’s valuable silver maces before each pupil was presented with a commemorative Winsford Town Council Pen.

They were also given a specially produced council agenda featuring just one item of important business: The Willow Wood School visit itself.

Cllr Kennedy added: “The young people of our great town are our future, and it’s really important to engage with them at an early age and show them that their council cares.”
