DESPITE a devastating lorry accident, insurance complications and an ongoing legal battle, Winsford’s premier nightspot is readying for re-launch.

And the new improved de bees is a more versatile venue than the old favoured nightspot, which was partly demolished when a fully laden salt lorry overturned into the beer garden last October.

A remodelled interior, new stages, lighting and sound systems, as well as an expanded events programme is set to turn de bees into Mid Cheshire’s premier entertainments venue.

But manager Damon Horrill admitted the future hung in the balance after insurer, Millburn, went into administration in December, leaving operator, Cornerstone Inns, without money to repair the scared building.

“The problem has been the cost,” said Damon, who took it upon himself – and his own wallet – to shell out money to save de bees.

“It has been touch and go. We are open now, but work will not be complete before spring and we can only hope that insurance monies will be with us by then.”

Despite the setbacks, Debees already looks like a completely new venue.

The building is a real product of Winsford’s creativity – local artists’ work adorns freshly painted walls and new fixtures, fittings and bar areas have been bespoke crafted by Winsford-based carpenters.

The centrepiece of Debees is the new stage, which now has areas to stand on all sides, improving the live experience for bands and audiences.

De bees new emphasis on all-round entertainment has been designed to reflect changing culture in Winsford – one that’s trended towards a massive expansion in music, arts and community events.

“Having operated the site for 18 years we have already seen many changes, but none as far reaching as to turn our backs on the club culture that has identified de bees in recent years,” added Damon.

“Ultimately night clubs attract a lot of problems, most people over the age of 24 find them wholly inaccessible; times have changed.

“We considered the time was right to retire the weekend nightclub and build in its place Mid Cheshire’s biggest and best entertainment venue, with a seven day a week programme of activity and entertainment.”

“Culturally Winsford is becoming aspirational, and de bees is now representative of that positivity and belief. The music and arts scene locally is the toast of the county. We now have a fitting stage and venue at the heart.”

New at debees: Increased cover outside means the outdoor Hawaiian style bar and decking area is truly year-round, now featuring an outdoor stage to further expand the venue’s live offering and ‘shooter alley’ – a specialist shots bar.

Sound dampened bar rooms adjoining the stage area have large windows onto the stage, meaning a quiet drink can be enjoyed while still listening and watching to the live music next door.

Two stages and a performance spaces in each bar area mean Debees can host its own self contained festivals.

New bar areas open daily, with space to host everything from Jazz to comedy, to Zumba dancing and theatre workshops.

As with pervious performances from the likes of John Bishop and the Levellers, plans are afoot to bring in top bands, comedy acts and tribute shows.

De bees now boasts professional facilities catering for private functions and parties.
