A BRAVE Winsford DJ is putting on a New Year money spinner in aid of the charity that helped him through testicular cancer.

Rob Curzon will serve up house, trance and dance anthems alongside other top regional disk jockeys at Wharton Conservative Club, during his Energize NYE Party on December 31.

The 34-year-old said the event would help repay Macmillan Cancer Support for the care they showed him on the road to recovery after being diagnosed with cancer in 2012.

“I found this little lump,” remembered Rob. “I thought it was normal at the time. Even the doctor thought it would turn out to just be a cyst.”

But after a scan at Northwich infirmary, doctors rang Rob to tell him he needed immediate surgery.

He was treated at Leighton’s Michael Heal Unit and underwent chemotherapy at Christies in January.

“I was one of the lucky ones, but the scare was still there,” said Rob, whose first ‘thank you’ fundraiser played out on ITV, when he donated £100 from a Chinese teapot sale on David Dickinson’s Real Deal to Christies and Leighton.

“When I went on the programme it was three days after my operation,” added the former Mid Cheshire College tutor.

“I was still feeling the effects of the drugs they had given me, so I didn’t feel any pain.

“Then the next day I was in agony.

“Macmillan were there throughout to help my family and help me through it. All the doctors and nurses were great, so was my partner, Courtney White.

“I’m still getting checkups and it’s been a year now so they’re sending me for a CT scan.”

Now on the road to recovery, Rob’s called in his old friends from the regular Middlewich DJ nights he used to hold.

The club and DJs are giving their time for free in order to maximise funds for Macmillan.

Djs include Greig Van Emmenis, John Griffiths, Gary Cox, Dan Guest and Rob Owen.

Tickets £5 for Energize NYE, taking place between 8am-2pm, are available from Wharton Conservative Club.
