SCHOOLS in Winsford have received a £22.5m boost over the past three years, according to figures released by the council.

The majority of the funding – £20.5m – represents investment in Winsford E-Act Academy while a further £2m was shared between seven primary and special schools.

Winsford High Street Primary School benefited from a £1.3m project to create a new hall and additional teaching accommodation while £100,000 was invested in a SEN room at Over Hall Primary School.

The remaining £600,000 relates to improvements at Hebden Green Special School, Willow Wood Primary School, Darnhall Primary School, Greenfields Primary School and Wharton Primary School.

These schemes ranged from a £10,000 secure fencing project to a £100,000 roof replacement.

The figures, which relate to the period from April 2011 to March 2014, were revealed by Cheshire West and Chester Council and include £3.3m from council resources.

Clr Lynda Jones, Conservative ward member for Over and Verdin, said: “Winsford E-Act Academy is a clear example of how the Government and the council are investing in education in Winsford.

“But what these figures clearly show is that this investment goes much further, and that schools across the town are benefiting from improved facilities.”

Clr Mike Jones, leader of CWaC, said: “Over the past four years we have identified schools as a priority for investment and set out what improvements are required to enhance the learning environment for our children.

“We have invested £100m in the borough’s schools, of which approximately £80m is from central Government and £20m is from council resources.

“Over the next four years we expect our schools to benefit from a further £100m in Government funding.

“This is a clear endorsement by the Government of the understanding we have of the needs of our schools, and our vision for the future of education in Cheshire West.”
