THE Second annual Mr Cheshire contest at the weekend proved that bodybuilding was a growing success in Winsford.

The show saw muscle-bound competitors from across the country competing to win prizes, trophies and a coveted entry place at the world famous Mr Universe contest.

The event at Winsford Lifestyle Centre on Saturday, September 22, was organised by bodybuilder Kelvin Hinde.

He said: “It went really well. There hadn’t been a show in the Cheshire area for quite a few years and interest had died down.

“Last year was the first one I put on and we got 19 competitors and about 130 paying guests.

“On Saturday there were 39 competitors and about 250 people watching.

“Winsford was the perfect venue for us. Everyone was saying how good the competitors looked on stage and with the lighting at the Lifestyle Centre.

“There were a lot of people going swimming or to use the gym who were dropping in to watch. The standard of the competitors was phenomenal.”

First, second and third places in the top category went to James Fleming, ex Mr Universe Paul Sutton and former Mr Britain podium finisher, Carl Jolley.

Ryan Andrews won the under 24 category, while Wrexham’s Holly Welch.
