A TEENAGER was punched repeatedly in the face by an older boy after an incident with a girl, a court heard.

A 16-year-old Winsford boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting the 14-year-old causing actual bodily harm when he appeared at Vale Royal Youth Court on Wednesday (May 7).

The incident involving the girl, who was the defendant's girlfriend, was not disclosed in court as it contained inappropriate allegations.

Laurence Bestow, prosecuting, said the victim was walking home in Winsford with two friends at 9.30pm on February 10 when he was approached by the defendant riding a bike.

The defendant asked his name and then attacked him, punching him up to six times in the face until he fell backwards over the defendant's bike.

Then he hit the victim six more times while he was on the floor.

Mr Bestow said the victim suffered a lump to his left eye and forehead, a cut to the inside of his mouth and marks to his left eye.

Stephen Ferns, defending, said the defendant was acting on what his girlfriend had told him at the time, which he believed.

He said: "He suffers from a conduct disorder which was diagnosed when he was 11 years of age.

"This makes these kind of things more likely to happen to him but a great deal of work has been done and will continue to be done."

The teenager himself said: "I'm sorry for doing it and I shouldn't have done it - I should have walked away or spoken to him about it properly."

Magistrates gave him a six-month referral order and ordered him to pay £100 compensation to his victim and £35 court costs.
