Former One Direction bandmates Liam Payne and Niall Horan will be battling it out in the fan stakes as they both released new music overnight.

Payne, 24, who previously released Strip That Down, has brought out his new single, Bedroom Floor, while Horan, 24, has released his debut solo album, Flicker.

Payne told Radio 1’s Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw: “I’m more nervous this time around. The second single is different.”

He added: “I’ve not slept much but I feel alright. I couldn’t figure out the blinds in the hotel.”

The singer and new dad, with girlfriend Cheryl, said the lyrics were “about a relationship” when you are “torn… but you always end up with clothes on the bedroom floor”.

Horan wrote on Twitter that he was “incredibly proud” of his new album.

“It’s time, Flicker is out finally. I’ve spent the last year and a half writing and recording this album. It’s something that I’ve worked really hard on and I’m incredibly proud of it,” he said.

“This is the first time I’ve put my thoughts and emotions on paper and then on to record and it feels really good. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for everything so far.”

Horan launched a solo career with the single This Town in 2016. He followed it up with the tracks Slow Hands and Too Much To Ask.

There appeared to be no rivalry with the ex-One Direction stars, with Payne previously tweeting Horan: “Proud of how far we’ve come bro! Everyone go out and buy his album Friday!!”

Fans were impressed and emotional:

@AccordingToFran wrote: “I am saving Flicker for when I don’t have to be awake in 5 hours, but Bedroom Floor by Liam Payne is more than I could have ever asked for.”

@Franklyn_Jane wrote: “You said it was over. But clothes say different on my bedroom floor… Well done Liam Payne!”

@horanxdonvts wrote: “It’s sooooo windy and cold the only thing that makes me warm is Niall Horan’s album Flicker.”

Both stars are signed to Capitol Records.
