Toby Jones has admitted he still finds awards ceremonies terrifying.

Despite having been nominated for a bevy of awards, including a Golden Globe, the Harry Potter star said he still doesn't feel any more comfortable at the events.

Toby, who was recently nominated for a lead actor TV Bafta for his role as Alfred Hitchcock in The Girl, said: "Like any awards ceremony and any award, to be nominated for it is really exciting but then you have the actual business of having to go to the ceremony and do it all.

"I always find that absolutely nervewracking and I don't get any better at it, I get worse at it.

"I get more and more nervous so it's thrilling, but also it's scary, so you long for it to be over and to be able to relax, whatever happens."

The actor, who said he is a big Hitchcock fan, explained that taking on such an iconic role was a daunting prospect.

He said: "Playing real people is always tricky because people have very strong ideas about what people are like, even though no one knows what anyone's like.

"If you do any kind of biopic, the point is you're learning something new about someone, but people feel understandably very proprietorial about it. So I was very aware of that and slightly intimidated by that but that just keeps you working.

"It's a good thing, a motivational thing."

Toby has just finished work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier and can be seen later this year in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
