Jamie Cullum has said becoming a father hasn't given him perspective - it's made life even more confusing.

The Frontin' singer has two children, Lyra and Margot, with wife Sophie Dahl and says it's a myth that being a parent makes everything clearer.

Jamie said: "People always tell you having kids puts your life in perspective, but no, it really doesn't. It makes everything more confusing, although the change does make life more beautiful. Having kids makes you experience everything more intensely.

"I've always been a positive person, I've always been able to see the better side of things, and having the girls gave me a much rounder take on life, how tough and unpleasant it can be, as well as telling me just how beautiful it can be."

The singer admitted his feelings about being a father had affected his songwriting, too.

"Becoming a dad made me see the best of myself, the worst of myself, and see events in my life before and after their birth in a new light. That's fed into my writing, and with my songs I don't want to be one of those idiots whining for the sake of it.

"I'm commenting on how I see the world, and I now see it with a greater clarity, good and bad. It's a sensory overload, parenthood, it really is."
